CMS comment deadline change

The Council for Medical Schemes has extended its deadline for comments on its proposed revisions to how breast cancer should be defined and treated under the prescribed minimum benefits, which medical schemes must, by law, cover.

In Personal Finance last week, we reported on the proposed changes (see “Move to spell out breast cancer treatment” on These were detailed in a circular released by the Council for Medical Schemes late last year, with the deadline for feedback set at January 22.

This week, the council released a circular saying the deadline had been extended to February 5 “to allow full participation from all stakeholders”.
